Emergency Appeal: GilgitBaltistan’s the forgotten villages
High in the isolated peaks of GilgitBaltistan, three remote mountain villages sit on the edge of survival. Cut off by treacherous terrain and repeated climatedriven disasters, families here face extreme poverty, food insecurity, and a critical lack of clean water.
Recent floods and glacial lake outburst events have destroyed homes, farmland, bridges, and water channels, leaving entire valleys cut off from basic supplies. Flash floods and glacier bursts in districts and have submerged villages, washed away roads, and left families stranded without food or safe drinking water.
Widespread climatedriven flooding across GilgitBaltistan has displaced thousands, obliterated infrastructure, and pushed already fragile communities deeper into crisis.
Many depend on daily labour and subsistence farming—livelihoods now wiped out, leaving families with nothing.
These are communities living in the shadow of the Siachen region and the Baltistan ranges—geographically breathtaking yet among the most deprived and hardesttoreach areas in Pakistan.
Chronic poverty in these remote villages is fuelled by isolation, limited arable land, harshwinters, and lack of safe water sources.
Your support will deliver lifesaving food assistance to these cut off mountain households
Your donation will help provide:
1. Family Food Packs (Long ShelfLife)
Essential staples such as:
- Flour, rice, lentils, oil
- Sugar, tea, salt
- Highenergy items suitable for winter and longterm storage
These packs ensure families have nutritious food with a reliable shelf life, especially crucial where markets are inaccessible for months at a time.
2. Weekly Hot Meals
Prepared hot meals to reach:
- Elderly residents
- Widows and orphaned children
- Families with no access to cooking facilities after floods destroyed their homes
- Displaced households sheltered in temporary locations
These communities cannot rebuild alone. With minimal government presence and difficult terrain, your support may be the only lifeline reaching them this winter.
