Sabeel Project (Clean Water)

Access to clean and safe drinking water remains one of the most pressing challenges facing many communities across Pakistan.

Despite the country’s vast river systems and water resources, rapid population growth, urban expansion, poor infrastructure, and climate-related pressures have left millions of people without reliable access to safe water. In many rural and underserved areas, families depend on contaminated water sources such as shallow wells, canals, or shared hand pumps that are often unsafe for drinking.

Unsafe water has serious consequences for public health. Waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, and typhoid remain common in areas where clean water is not readily available. These illnesses disproportionately affect children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. For families already struggling with poverty, the cost of medical treatment and lost workdays due to illness can create an even deeper cycle of hardship.

The burden of collecting water also falls heavily on women and children. In many communities, they must walk long distances each day to reach the nearest water source, often carrying heavy containers back home. This daily task can take several hours, reducing the time children can spend in school and limiting opportunities for women to work, care for their families, or participate in community life.

To help address this challenge, ARQ Foundation launched the Sabeel Project, an initiative dedicated to providing sustainable access to clean drinking water for communities in need. Through this project, ARQ installs water pumps in underserved areas where reliable water sources are limited or unavailable. These pumps provide a safe and accessible supply of clean water that families can rely on every day.

By installing sustainable water pumps, ARQ Foundation helps communities reduce their dependence on contaminated water sources and significantly lowers the risk of waterborne diseases. Access to nearby clean water also eases the physical and emotional burden placed on families, particularly women and children who previously travelled long distances to collect water.

Beyond immediate relief, the Sabeel Project creates long-term impact. A single water pump can serve entire neighbourhoods, benefiting hundreds of people for years to come. Communities gain not only improved health and hygiene but also greater dignity, stability, and peace of mind knowing that a reliable source of clean water is within reach.

Through initiatives like the Sabeel Project, ARQ Foundation continues to work toward a future where access to clean water is no longer a privilege but a basic reality for every family. By investing in sustainable solutions today, the foundation is helping build healthier, stronger communities for generations to come.
